Ancestral Hall

A measured survey of a traditional Chaozhou clan temple

2016 Winter · Chaozhou, Guangdong

Ancestral Hall

A winter 2016 architectural survey of a traditional ancestral hall (citang 祠堂) in Chaozhou, Guangdong (潮州). The project measured and precisely recorded a classic example of the region's clan-temple architecture — its construction details, its elaborate timber roof framing, and its spatial planning.

The study focused on the folk ancestral halls of the Chaoshan region (潮汕) — the timber roof structure, the spatial sequence from front gate (toumen 头门) to main hall (主殿), and the bracket-and-beam details that give these clan temples their character.
